Do your abs pop out during core work? This is clue Do your abs pop out during core work? This is clue # 1 that your form needs help. I'm not even talking about diastasis recti (that's a whole other topic here, but this kind of bad form makes DR worse too). 

I'm talking about people who can't connect to their deep abs, and get popping (aka ninja turtle abs) during workouts. 

Pilates technique hits your abs differently.

Evidence supports the benefits of “sacrum freeing” positions for pushing. Why?!
Because the coccyx a.k.a. tailbone must bend back into extension as baby is born. 

This cannot happen if mom is lying on her back when pushing and the sacrum is pressed against the bed. (Is it any wonder so many women complain of tailbone pain postpartum! 🤨) 

Unfortunately, women are commonly told they must be on their back for pushing. This is largely for the convenience of their care provider - this is how they are trained to deliver babies. 

That said, there ARE birth scenarios where you may need or want to be on your back. This towel trick can help create more space for the tailbone to move!
